Fitness testing and activities
During the last two weeks we've been working on our winter fitness tests. Our hope is to see progress in each test and well as maintenance of past scores if already at a high level. The goal is for all students to be in the healthy fitness zone for the cardiovascular endurance test (pacer test), abdominal strength test (curl-ups), upper body strength (flexed-arm-hang), flexibility (back saver sit in reach test) and their BMI which is their body mass index. We stress the importance of physical activity everyday in class. What is recommended for our students is 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous activity daily, meaning any activity that brings their heart rate up, breathing more rapidly as well as a good sweat. We lift weights to increase our muscle strength, our heart is also a muscle which requires physical activity to remain strong and healthy. There is an excellent website www.kidshealth.org which has an abundant amount of information regarding kids and teens.
